P4 children really enjoyed participating in the Create a Castle Programme at Ranfurly House, Dungannon. This was a follow-up to our World Around Us topic of Castles, which we had studied earlier in the school year. The guide told us about Hugh O'Neill who lived in a castle on the site and about how he had to leave Ireland during the Flight of the Earls. We then walked up the hill and admired the magnificent view and discussed the reasons why this was such an excellent location for a castle. Everyone then had great fun working together in groups to design and build their own castle using junk materials.
