P4 STEM Day
Primary Four had a great few days completing fun Maths and Science activities linked to their topic ‘Up, Up and Away.’
First they watched a fun video showing people in the past trying to fly, inventing strange machines and using wings.
They then made their own paper aeroplanes and we measured to see how far they could travel in centimetres. Then they used instructions to make a second aeroplane and hoped that it would fly further. They learnt that the planes needed wind to help them glide. They also learnt that the more force they applied, the higher in the air their plane started and the position of when they let go of their plane, was very important in helping to lengthen the distance travelled.
We then completed an experiment with balloons and plastic bottles to find out that hot air rises. This is how a hot air balloon flies.
Great work P4.
