Two boys teams represented Woods at the Mid Ulster Schools Football tournament on Tuesday 21 March. The boys played fantastic football and really enjoyed themselves. Both teams did really well. There were 32 teams participating in total and there was great excitement throughout the day.
In the first semi-final of the prestigious Cup Woods PS A team defeated Knocknagin PS by 3 goals to nil and in the New Row PS Derby game the A team narrowly defeated the gallant B team by 1 goal to nil.
And so we were set for our first Mid Ulster Primary Schools Section A Cup Final between Woods PS A team and New Row PS A team. Two fantastic teams served up a great game of football and neither would give an inch. Both goalkeepers were on top form and neither defence were willing to concede any goals. At the end of the seven minutes of normal time the sides could not be separated and the scoreline remained 0-0.
And so they played on until one team could score that all important 'Golden Goal' and in the end it was scored by New Row PS. Heartbreak for the players from Woods PS but they had done themselves proud throughout the day and had come so close in the end.
Woods staff are so proud of all the boys who played so skilfully and enthusiastically at the tournament - well done boys! 👏
